Many thanks to Barbara Marsden the umpire, Roy Aston the photographer and all the markers, + Dennis Burroughs and Bryan Smith on the bar and all the ladies who provided the refreshments and food.
MEN’S SECTION
In the final 2 PCL games against Bellingham and Eltham we beat Bellingham 5½ to 1½ in a shortened game because of the rain and Eltham conceded our last League game as they could not get a side out.
L.X. League
Not the “double” season Ken Hughes wanted but at least we went out with a sound 6-0 beating of Bethlem. Will 2012 be the year?
LADIES SECTION
Jubilee League
In the last game we won 6-0 against Bethlem and it seems we will finish around half way in the table
HOSPITAL AMENITIES FUND COMPETITION
Many congratulations to our Ladies Triple in winning the final against South Hill Wood
Pauline Palser, Anne Bailey and Linda Brown.
AGGREGATES
Three joint winners for the month of September Rae Smith, Ted Turpin and Ken Woolston. Derek advises that “we have had another successful season, again averaging 25 members per session with a high of 42 and a low of 6. 15 members completed the necessary monthly games to qualify (the first 5 within 1 shot) for the cup and as our president Mike Truan was unable to attend the trophies were presented by myself. The runner up was Roy Aston. Congratulations to the winner Ray Curle. Thanks to all those who assisted through the season including Roy Aston who manned the bar on most Tuesday’s and Thursday’s.” 38 attended the end of season Aggregate Supper. Tony Willis, on behalf of the members, presented a bottle of wine to Alan Jordan and Mike Wilson for assisting in the running of the competition and Derek Reed will be given a “house warming” gift of his choice as he hopes to move house soon.
BRITISH WHEELCHAIR BOWLERS ASSOCIATION GAME
Once again we were honoured to host their President’s day. Twelve teams took part – three representing the BWBA, three from West Wickham, and teams from Surrey, Bletchingly, London Scottish, London Irish and London Welsh. The top rink was from London Welsh and Terry Fitzgerald thanked everybody for attending and hopefully enjoying the afternoon with a special thank you to our own Ken Harper for stepping in at the last minute. The catering helpers were all presented with a gift for providing the catering during the day including our own members Tinty Ingram, Gloria Glockling and Anne Bailey. Terry also thanked Bryan Smith, Dennis Burroughs, Ian Way and Nick Pickering for all the work on the bar plus our Green maintenance team. Ian Blackmore the Chairman of the B.W.B.A. then gave a summary of the Associations work and commitment to handicapped bowlers and updated those present on their current problems where Wheelpower have decided to close the B.W.B.A.’s H.Q. at Stoke Mandeville, known as the home of Wheelchair sport. Ian explained they get no government or official funding and are reliant on days such as this to generate funds. A collection was held to close proceedings which raised £1,114. Bob Govan, West Wickham’s captain, gave the concluding speech thanking everybody for contributing and participating on a thoroughly enjoyable day.
