Pairs
Yes
- Les Melville and Ian Way have done it again !!! Having beaten Bromley
Common B.C. in the semi final earlier in the month by just four shots
they stormed to victory in the final against Hayes C.C. by 30 shots to
13. The final, held at West Beckenham B.C. was played in glorious sunshine
which was in contrast to the end of the semi final when the last two ends
were played in almost total darkness. Indeed at the end of the game they
found that they had two of each others bowls in their bags!!
This now means that they have not only won the competition for three out
of the last four years but have been beaten only once (by one shot) in
a sequence of roughly twenty matches. Do you think they may be persuaded
to give it a go again next year?.
LX
League
The final two matches of the season brought good wins in both :-
Blackheath & Greenwich Away Won 8 - 2
Bethlem Home Won 8 - 2
This means we finished around halfway in the league which was won by Sidcup.
It has been agreed that an additional two triples knockout competition
will be introduced next season called The Ron Ault Cup in memory of Ron
who served the league so admirably before his death.
Kent
Competitions
Don't forget - the forms for the 2004 competitions are up on the notice
board now so please take one, fill it in and get it back to Ian Way before
the 12th of October.
Aggregates
Two sets of results to give you plus the overall winners. The result of
August's competition was ; 1st - Barbara Mossman, 2nd Dennis Seaman and
3rd Ken Hapted and the September competition proved to be very close with
a joint 1st between Roy Aston & Dennis Seaman and joint 3rd between
Doris McCarthy and Ann Young. At their end of season supper held on Tuesday
the 23rd the overall results for the season were announced as follows
;
Winner - Doris Lindley
Runner Up - Ken Hapted
Congratulations to them both.
June
Jones
June ran in the Hyde Park Fun Run on the 14th of the month and completed
the three miles in 45 minutes. On the day she wore a T-Shirt with the
name West Wickham B.C. written on it and with sponsorship she picked up
at the club and elsewhere she raised a magnificent £157 for a Breast
Cancer charity. Well done June !
Ladies
Handicap Singles
The delayed final was played the 4th of September and it was well worth
waiting for. In a tense encounter Anne Simmonds finally beat Barbara Way
by the closest of margins 22 - 21.
Jubilee
Cup
Congratulations go to Roger Cooley, Jack Skinner, Keith Gall and Phil
Broomfield who beat Bromley Town in the final at Beckenham B.C. by 23
shots to 13. This is in fact the second time in three years that a team
from this club have triumphed in this competition so we must be doing
something right !. Spare a thought though for Pete Searle who played in
all the rounds up to the final but after declaring himself unavailable
then found out that he could play. It was decided to leave the team as
it was with 'super sub' Roger playing in his place and thankfully, for
everyone concerned, this clearly did not affect the result. Lets hope
that they can win it again next year but this time with Pete making the
final.
Men's
match v Cyphers I.B.C.
The team has now been picked for the match against Cyphers for Sunday
26th October and is up on the main notice board. Please tick your name
off to acknowledge that you are still available to play.
Ladies please note that there will again be a mixed match against Cyphers,
on April 4th 2004, and we will be asking for names for that at the AGM
in December.
Officers
for 2004
Please note - The nominations lists for all Committee offices & delegates
are now on the notice boards. Remember that officers for the Management
Committee can be from both the gentlemen and ladies sections.
PCL
League
The final game of the season away at Bellingham was lost by 89 shots to
73 ( 2 points to 5) despite winning on two of the four rinks. This means
that we have probably finished the season in 8th or 9th place.
Hospital
Amenities Competitions
The triple of Colin Fazackerley, Keith Gall and Phil Broomfield unfortunately
lost their semi final against Bellingham on the 2nd of September at Nat
West Bank.
Sadly, in the final of the singles, John Tullett was also beaten, by Dave
King from Nat West Bank.
Animals
League
The final matches of the league were (just about) played without a hitch
although, for a variety of reasons, many of the teams could not field
the players that they should have. However the competition was finished
off on the 1st of the month without having to postpone any matches and
it is gratifying that it was played in good spirit. The final positions
show that the Antelopes were in third place, second were the Bears and
the winners were the Lions so congratulations to team leader Doris McCarthy,
Jo Reynolds, Maurice Simpson, Sid Perrett and Bill Mewis.
The
Warren Secretary's Charity Day
For the second year running the club supported this day by sending a rink
to the Metropolitan Police B.C. at the Warren on the 20th. Roger Cooley,
Phil Broomfield, Keith Gall and Mike Truan played in the fun day and in
fact actually won the overall 'round robin' competition where you play
a number of ends in all four positions. The money raised on the day went
to local hospices.
AGM's
Mens - Thursday 16th October at 7.30 pm.
Ladies - Sunday 19th October at 11.00 am.
Club - Tuesday 2nd December at 7.30 pm.
Social
Events
Remember to keep in touch with what is going on at the club during the
winter by coming up and using the bar on either a Friday evening or Sunday
lunchtime. It is hoped that at least one Quiz Night will be arranged and
also that the short mat may be rolled out again on Wednesday evenings.
The Christmas Party will be on Saturday 13th of December and if recent
years are anything to go by you may have to get your name down quickly
as numbers may have to be restricted.
Help
There will plenty of little (and some not so little) jobs done in and
around the club during the winter including the renovation of the benches
and seats, redecoration of the changing rooms etc. So please keep in touch
with the Maintenance Manager, Keith Gall, and if you can help out and
spare a few hours of your time it would be greatly appreciated.
