EARLY SEASON
On a clear but very windy day a reasonable proportion of the club played in the Ladies v Gents. The Men won on shots 89 to 78 but the Ladies won 3 rinks to 2 rinks. An honorable draw????? Nice to see the 4 Salters watching all afternoon. A big thank you to Dennis Burroughs for providing a buffet.
MEN’S SECTION
P.C.L.
A good start against Division 2 opponents Hayes Common winning on all 4 rinks, but one rink went into the last end 2 down but recovered to get 3 shots on that last end. Sadly the form was not continued despite winning on 2 rinks and drawing on 1 rink we lost 2 ½ to 4 ½ to Blackheath & Greenwich and then lost 1-6 to R.B.S.
Sadly Britannic House have dropped out of the league and the committee and Club’s are currently looking at how the League will now be arranged this season re promotion and relegation.
Bowls England Men’s National Top Club ( Singles, 2 Wood, Pairs, Triples & Fours – 5 points at stake).
We entered 2 teams in this competition. In the 1st round a very close encounter with Sidcup B and although we won 4-1 it did not reflect on the closeness of the game. The other team played Bromley and lost 4-1 but gave Bromley a fright as three games were very close right down to the final ends. Special mention to Tony Willis who stepped in late in the singles and only narrowly lost to Chris Smith (Kent Middleton Cup player and one of our Social members!!) and actually beat him on ends 12-9 !!
Bowls England Men’s National Club Two Fours (2 Rinks with the total shots settling the result).
Again we entered 2 teams. In the Preliminary round we had a good win against Bellingham and then a superb encounter with Bromley A, winning on one rink by 2 and only losing on the last end on the other, sadly by 3 to lose overall by 1. A great performance against a strong Bromley outfit. The other team beat Bromley Town and followed it up with a convincing win against R.B.S. and now face B & G in the next round.
LADIES SECTION
Jubilee League
In the first game we had a close encounter against Hayes Common winning on one rink but losing the other rink and the overall score, going down by 4 points to 2 points. However in the next match we comprehensively outplayed Eltham and won 6-0.
