Finals Day Programme
Colin Fazackerley has very kindly agreed to produce his excellent programme
again this year but he cannot do it on his own. So if you anything you
think might be of interest and want to be included please hand it to him
before the 20th of August to give him time to put it in and then get it
copied before the day.
LX League
Four more matches to report on during the month, which was a mixed one
for Harry's boys! :-
Woolwich & Plumstead Home Won 8 - 2
Bromley Home Won 6 - 4
Nat West Bank Away Lost 2 - 8
Hayes Country Away Lost 0 - 10
Mixed Pairs
The semi-finals have now been played off and we have our finalists. Irene
Spiller & Ron Dalgliesh got through against Annette Hughes & Keith
Gall whilst Eileen Stalley & Bill Whiting won through against Ida
Bennee & Sam Bolt, both games being decided on the extra ends.
PCL League
We only had the two games during the month of June :-
Bromley Away Lost 1 - 6
Woolwich & Plumstead Home Won 7 - 0
Forest Hill (Away) fixture - postponed or cancelled
? Watch this space!
North West Kent League
We continue to do well in the Division 5 and are still on top despite
the last result of the month ;
HSBC Away Won 6 - 0
West Beckenham 2 Home Won 6 - 0
Hayes Country 2 Home Won 6 - 0
South Hill Wood Home Won 6 - 0
New Livesey Away Lost 0 - 6
As far as the Knock-Out competition went we unfortunately were defeated
away at Bexleyheath & Barnehurst having won on one rink and lost on
the other.
Captain's Day
Captain Bob's special day proved to be a great one although the weather
could have been a bit kinder. Teams from Nat West Bank, Bellingham, Worthing
Pavilion, Addington, Kent Past Presidents Association and Met Police enjoyed
themselves none the less and so did Bob despite later loosing a tooth
!!!!!
More importantly Bob's chosen charity, the St Thomas's Paediatric Cochlear
Implant Society, have received their share of the £450.00 raised
on the day so that was well worthwhile.
London & Southern Counties Triples
Ernie Hay, Bill Mewis & Roy Aston are still going strong in the triples
having won quite easily after their long trip down to Southampton Old
Green on Sunday the 4th they then played against three from Loose (near
Maidstone) at home on the 19th and again won with relative ease. Believe
it or not they have to go to Southampton again in their Section Final,
this time to play Southampton Sports Centre. A win there will put them
in the last 4 of the competition. Good luck chaps - at least you know
the way down there now!!.
BDBA Competitions
In the Singles Phil Broomfield won a cliffhanger against the champion
from Petts Wood 21-20 and now plays against John Woodley of Bellingham
(still to be arranged).
Our Triple of Peter Jeffries, Bob Radford and Phil Broomfield (who subbed
for Mike Truan) won against Petts Wood and await a date against their
next opponents.
In the Fours Roger Cooley, Nick Pickering, Roy Aston and Ernie Hay won
at Penge Conservatives and now play against Queensmead on Friday the 6th
of August.
Les Melville and Ian Way got off to a good start in the Pairs competition
with a win on an awful evening against a very good pair from Nat West
Bank and now go to Muirheads on Tuesday the 3rd of August.
The Triples League started off with the closest of matches against Hayes
Country with the home rink winning by one shot whilst the away rink lost
by just one so the points were shared at one each. We then beat Bethlem
but lost against Coney Hall so we are now out of the competition.
British Legion
Dennis Burroughs again organised a smashing evening in the first of the
two annual fixtures against the Hayes Branch. Sadly the weather could
have been a bit better but everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves and
tucked into a splendid buffet afterwards. Dennis catered a little too
well for the 70 odd people who turned up and various "nibbles"
were still available some days after. The money raised on the night, £420.00
was, as usual, split evenly between the club and the Legion's poppy appeal.
You will note that I have not mentioned the score but suffice to say that,
after the convincing win the bowls club had last year, Dennis picked a
particularly strong team against us this time!
The next match is on 27th of August so put it in your diary and lets get
our revenge !.
Animals League
Slowly but surely the postponed fixtures are being played off and the
Jaguars currently top the league but are closely followed by the Pumas,
Antelopes and Giraffes two of whom have a game in hand.
Aggregates
Apologies but the results were not up in time for me to include the May
winners but I m pleased to report that the June winners were 1st Ken Hapted,
2nd Les Melville and 3rd Ken Hughes.
Well done and I will try and keep up with events from now on!
Thanks
I am told that what used to be called the Monday Club and then became
the Tuesday afternoon club now operates on a Thursday ! Confused? I am
but it doesn't matter what day they do the work we are very greateful
for their efforts and a "mole" tells me that Derek Reed and
Ron Dalgliesh have recently been recruited and are helping to keep the
club clean and tidy. Thanks lads!!

A Moan
I don't like ending on a sour note but it has again been pointed out that
many of you are still walking around behind the head whilst people are
on the mat waiting to bowl. This is very distracting and should be stopped
immediately. Please think about it !
