BEST WISHES
Our thoughts and wishes are with John Hose, recently admitted to The Princess Royal coronary care ward and to Ida Bennee who is still in the same hospital. Win Weston is also in the wars again having had another fall.
MEN’S MATCHES
COX CUP
Division 1 winners – the 3rd time in 6 years - a tremendous achievement.
Having beaten Bromley fairly convincingly in the semi final (although we stuttered near the end) we then played the dark horses this year, Petts Wood, who had already put out amongst others Metropolitan Police 1 and Sidcup 1. At half way it looked as though we were going to be another of their scalps but a change of jack length on one rink saw us take the initiative back and in the end ran out comfortable winners. Congratulations to Tony Bartholomew, Bob Govan, Phil Broomfield, Ian Way – John Muddle, Mike Truan, Bill Mewis, Geoff Bailey. Thanks to all those who went to Bromley to support the team. We now meet Folkestone Park in the semi-final at Marden on the 4th September.
P.C.L.LEAGUE
We currently stand in 1st place in Division 2 but only 2 ½ points clear of our nearest rivals Eltham who we play in the last game of the season. However Eltham have only that game left to play whereas we also still have to play Sidcup and Bellingham. In the PCL knockout (Presidents Cup) we beat Hayes Common, Britannic House and Eltham and now meet Metropolitan Police in the final this coming Sunday. Best of luck on the day.
LX AND RON AULT TROPHY – Ken Hughes
“After a somewhat weak season in the league being only 13th (17) at the end of July we are finishing a lot stronger defeating Langley away by 70/60 (8pts) and then Queensmead away by 94/53 - the latter our first clean sweep ten pointer for a long time!
However, for some unknown reason the guys who are not getting results in the league perform brilliantly in the 'Ron Ault' knock out cup comfortably defeating Woolwich and Plumstead by 7 shots in the final on the neutral green at Bromley. This means that we retain the cup for the third year running and praise be to the six handsome hulks in the photograph currently on the club board and ably assisted in previous rounds by Pat Moore, Colin Webb, Malcolm Whitehead and Ken Hughes"
LADIES MATCHES
In the Belle Trophy having beaten Hartley County Club and South Hill Wood we played Holmesdale in the quarter final and after a close game won 68-61. We meet Borough Green in the semi-final.
NORTH WEST KENT LEAGUE
The Ladies Division 3 side won their Division again comfortably and the Division 5 first season side narrowly missed out on promotion by 3 points. A very successful season for both teams. Not a good season for the Men. The Division 2 side having been in the top two for most of the season fell away in the run in losing their last 2 home games 0-6 and handing the title to Metropolitan Police 1. In Division 6 we needed to beat Britannic House in the last game to avoid relegation but also lost at home.

ROYAL BRITISH LEGION GAME
Another good evening with 5 rinks of men and one of ladies taking part but only 18 ends played because of the light. The overall winners were The Legion 94 – 111 but the aggregate of the 2 games was 242 – 223 to West Wickham. Another £618 was raised, shared between ourselves and the poppy appeal. Thanks to Linda Brown on the raffle, Bryan Smith and the bar staff on the day and as always Dennis Burroughs for organizing and providing a superb buffet.
CLUB TOUR – an update from Annette & Ken
“The Club Tour to Tenby in July 2011. Full details about this tour are on the club notice board. The tour has so far been well supported and is definitely going ahead with some good matches being arranged with several bowling clubs in Pembrokeshire all set in one of the most picturesque parts of the British Isles.
Good weather and a fair wind this should turn out to be a very good tour. At the time of going to print the only available space now left on the tour is for one couple with a room at the hotel and last seats on the coach. A reserve list will be made for late applicants."
