Welcome
Bert Cox Memorial Cup
WELL DONE LADS !!!!!!! A magnificent series of results ended in our two
rinks making it all the way through to become the Divisional winners of
this competition. After battling their way past Forest Hill, Bethlem,
Bromley and Sidcup (must be worth mentioning the home sides 42-4 win in
this game!!) they then played Eltham in the semi final. In a nailbiting
finish at Old Colfeians on the 17th they won by just 4 shots with Ian
Way's rink winning by 6 whilst Mike Truan's recovered well to lose by
just 2. In the final the following Sunday the team were without Ian who
was away on holiday and this was against Orpington Excelsior. Played in
atrocious conditions with heavy rain almost throughout I'm pleased to
say it didn't affect our lads as much as theirs and with Phil Broomfield
taking over as skip his rink notched up an impressive win by 25-11 whilst
Mike Truan's didn't need to play their last end as they were only 15-17
down. This really is a tremendous achievement and a feat that has certainly
not been equalled in the last 25 years at least. We now have to wait to
see who we will play on finals day when we will be up against the winners
from the other 3 divisions in the County. The semi-final and final will
take place at Hesketh Park, Dartford on September 10th and details will
be put up on the noticeboard nearer the day.
Royal British Legion
As usual, the first of the annual fixtures against the Hayes Branch was
well supported and everyone enjoyed another of Dennis's superb buffets
afterwards. WWBC clocked up a very healthy win on the green to get one
hand on regaining the trophy. The money raised on the night, £374.00,
was, as usual, split between us and the Poppy Appeal although the Appeals
share was rounded up to £200.00 by a generous donation. The second
game will be held on August 26th so check the notice board for the list
to put your name forward to play.
Ladies Invitation Day
The Invitation Day on the 17th went off very well with six rinks of visitors
thoroughly enjoying a super afternoon in the sun. The winning guests on
the day were from Forest Hill B.C. and our own Barbara Mossman won the,
now traditional, "spider" at the start. WWBC's "most accommodating"
rink was made up of Sue & Liz Pearce, Barbara Mossman, Win Weston
and Margaret Hewitt and they were VERY friendly to their opponents! However
the real winners were the Primrose Foundation who benefited to the tune
of £420 that was raised on the day - a splendid effort!!
LX League
The results got a lot better this month but sadly we had to concede a
game against Woolwich & Plumstead when we couldn't raise a team to
play - shame on you!. Conversely we were awarded the knock-out tie against
Bellingham when we accepted a date they offered but then they said they
couldn't raise a side?. It's a funny old game isn't it !. Anyway last
months results were :-
Woolwich & Plumstead Away Lost 0 - 10 w/o
Bromley Away Won 6 - 4
Nat West Bank Home Won 6 - 4
Hayes Country Home Won 8 - 2
Ron Ault Trophy - Knockout Competition
Bellingham Away Won W/O
Nat West Home Lost 21 - 33
Mixed Pairs Competition
The successful pairings from the competition that was played off on Sunday
31st July were Barbara Way & John Potts who will play Eileen Stalley
& Phil Broomfield in the final.
Finals Day Programme
Colin Fazackerley will again try and put together a programme for the
day and needs any articles you feel might be of interest for inclusion.
It takes a lot of effort to do this so please contact him as soon as possible.
North West Kent League
After a very poor start to the campaign Phil's lads are finding life in
Division 4 just a bit easier now and are climbing the league table fast
! Relegation is now a distant memory and a top 3 finish (or better!) may
be on the cards. Anyway the results last month make excellent reading
:-
Kings Away Won 6 - 0
Coney Hall 1 Away Won 6 - 0
Bethlem 2 Away Won 6 - 0
West Heath Home Won 6 - 0
2006 Tour
Judy Huggins is still looking for men ! That's not a rumour it's a fact!
She still needs a few more names for the tour to Weston Super Mare and
particularly gentlemen to make up the six rinks that have been booked.
Contact her or put your name up on the list if you are interested.
PCL League
Only two games during July and one of them was postponed! A shortage of
names and the involvement of both clubs in the Cox Cup semi-finals meant
that the game was postponed until September 18th.
Bromley Home Won 5 - 2
Woolwich & Plumstead Away Postponed
Jubilee League
Only two games for the ladies this month as well ;
Woolwich & Plumstead Away Lost 1 - 5
Bromley Away Lost 2 - 4
Animals League
The early pace-setters are the Leopards who are sprinting away with a
perfect set of results from their four games but hot in pursuit are the
Tigers who have 6 points from their games as do the Antelopes who have
only played 3. So it's still all to play for ! Any postponed matches need
to be played off as soon as you can folks !
Aggregates
Two lots of results to give you ; In June it was 1st Jack Skinner, 2nd
Dennis Seaman & 3rd Roy Aston and in July it was 1st Ken Hapted, 2nd
Joe "Bar Master" Rowe & 3rd Reg "Rink Master"
Chamberlain - well done to you all ! However it has been pointed out that
there is a lack of you ladies in these lists - so come on girls !!
The end of season supper will take place on September 22nd - see the board
for details.
L&SC Lonsdale Competition
Pleased to say that Phil Broomfield is still going strong in this one
having beaten a very good opponent away at Tunbridge Wells in the last
round 21-8 he will now face someone from Atherley, Southampton, in the
Area Q/Finals on Wednesday 3rd. Good luck!
Working Parties
You may not be aware but a lot of work has been undertaken in starting
to clear the area of land between the new security fence and the existing
hedge as you look out from the clubhouse. Working parties are meeting
every Tuesday until the end of the season (possibly beyond) from 9.00
a.m. until around lunchtime. Some of the work involves cutting back trees
and shrubs, removing general debris, levelling the ground, planting and
watering in the new Pyracantha's and installing netting over the new fence.
Any help you can give, even if only for an hour or so, would be greatly
appreciated so speak to Malcolm Whitehead for more information.
Captain's Day
Captain Bill Bennett's big day went off very well despite a last minute
hitch when the rink from Nat West Bank didn't turn up! However a great
day was had by all and the rink from Bromley B.C. certainly enjoyed themselves
as the highest winners and Mike Truan's rink doing likewise for WWBC.
The magnificent sum of £530.00 raised on the day will be added to
that from President's Day and the Dennyside fixture and will be going
to Demelza House. Bill would like to thank everyone who supported the
day!
